Historical Background - On the 24th February 1936, the day of the inauguration of the Birth Centenary Celebration of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna Deva, the new buildings of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Colombo, were opened with due solemnity. The Message of “Universal Love and Goodwill” was sent by the direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, His Holiness Srimat Swami Akhandanandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math & Mission for the occasion. Above all, the holy relics of Sri Ramakrishna are treasured in this Temple. Legal Background - Ramakrishna Mission (Ceylon Branch) is basically a spiritual charity organization and was incorporated by a special Act of Parliament i.e. Ordinance No. 8 of 1929. It is a worldwide organization, serving in various fields of human needs for more than 120 years - as service to man is service to God. Religious Activities - Apart from various socio-economic activities for the betterment of the poor and deprived section of this locality, this Ashrama has been undertaking, Daily Puja, Spiritual Discourses, Meditation sessions etc. on a regular basis. It also observes the birthday tithi pujas of Sri Ramakrishna Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, Navaratri Puja, Maha Sivaratri & Other Festivals. Ideology of Ramakrishna Mission
Vision - Vision of Oneness - Realization & Manifestation of Divinity Within. Mission Aim - Practice and preaching the Sanatana Dharma, Eternal Religion, as embodied in the lives and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. Motto - "Átmano mokshártham jagad hitáya cha" - For one’s own salvation and for the welfare of the world The two-fold aim of activities of the Ramakrishna Order. Methods - Work and Worship. The core message of Sri Ramakrishna. · Oneness of existence; · Divinity of human beings; · Unity of God - Truth is one Sages call it by various names. · Harmony of religions – Different Paths leads to same goal. · The Goal is to realize this Divinity. · Harmony of the East and the West, and the Ancient and the Modern. · Spiritual fulfillment, all-round development of human faculties. · Service to all as Worship of God. Swami Vivekananda became popular, by the historic speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago. He gave cardinal importance to Three Teachings :- Þ One’s highest achievement and greatest happiness lies in fully manifesting his or her own divinity; Þ One’s clearest vision lies in the perception of divinity everywhere; Þ One’s truest worship is the selfless service of his fellowman, in reality, God Himself. |
